a raster silhouette with a bitmapped photographic background

here's how i put together this image:



i started off with these two pics. i put them on one page.




 i turned my animal into a "smart object" so that i can move the pic around without distorting  it.


after i positioned it, i removed the background by selecting the white part using the "magic wand" tool then "inverse" so that the black part doesn't end up disappearing.
 




                         i touched up my silhouette by erasing the white pieces that was left over.




i added a drop shadow to give a little "life" to my creature.





i found a nice water texture and threw it on top of  my landscape


i played with the colors until i got the perfect look.
